Prayer
The O.T. writer Moses said, Today I put before you life and death..”
Which would you chose? Life I’m sure. But not just any life…
Psalm 34:12-14 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, The principle 13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. 14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Heres my point. There are 3 kinds of blessings recorded in the Bible and any one who desires to can claim them.
The first is simply to live by doing the right thing. And it is available to anyone in the world.
The second involves a personal invitation from God to become one of His children. John 1:12 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God This is God’s grace, His unmerited favor. You and I did nothing to deserve it and it is available to anyone in the world.
It is the third area of blessing that we have been talking about.
This 3rd area of blessing is available to those who have accepted God’s invitation to become His children and are living by the principles that He has put in place.
Let me explain it like this: If you and I grew up and both worked hard and did the right things we would each be blessed. But if your father owned the company that we both worked for you would have doors open to you that would not be open to me.
II Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring-not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. Romans 4:16
Let me brag a little. Not about me but about my Lord..
1. God said He will meet all our needs Phil.4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
2. God’s grace is sufficient for any problem that I face
II Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
3. God has promised that His children can not be overcome by temptation II Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
4. God has promised us a life with Him in Heaven John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
5. God has promised to for give our sins and cleanse us if we ask.
I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
6. God has promised to never leave us.
Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
Charles Tindley was the son of slaves, he taught him¬self to read and write at age 17. He later worked as a jan¬i¬tor while at¬tend¬ing night school, and earn¬ing his di¬vin¬i¬ty de¬gree through a cor¬re¬spond¬ence course. In 1902, he be¬came pas¬tor of the Cal¬va¬ry Meth¬o¬dist Epis¬co¬pal Church in Phil¬a¬del¬phia, Penn¬syl¬vania, the church where he had ear¬li¬er been the jan¬i¬tor. At the time of Tindley’s death, his church had 12,500 mem¬bers.
In 1905 he wrote these words..
When the storms of life are raging,
Stand by me;
When the storms of life are raging,
Stand by me;
When the world is tossing me
Like a ship upon the sea
Thou Who rulest wind and water,
Stand by me.
In the midst of tribulation,
Stand by me;
In the midst of tribulation,
Stand by me;
When the hosts of hell assail,
And my strength begins to fail,
Thou Who never lost a battle,
Stand by me.
In the midst of faults and failures,
Stand by me;
In the midst of faults and failures,
Stand by me;
When I do the best I can,
And my friends misunderstand,
Thou Who knowest all about me,
Stand by me.
In the midst of persecution,
Stand by me;
In the midst of persecution,
Stand by me;
When my foes in battle array
Undertake to stop my way,
Thou Who savèd Paul and Silas,
Stand by me.
When I’m growing old and feeble,
Stand by me,
When I’m growing old and feeble,
Stand by me;
When my life becomes a burden,
And I’m nearing chilly Jordan,
O Thou “Lily of the Valley,”
Stand by me.
Some people are living by the principles of God without the power of God. You don’t Have to…
